History plays a strong role in New Market social life. Each year, the town holds popular events, such as New Market Day, complete with Revolutionary and Civil War re-enactors, authentic Maryland cuisine, and fun for all ages. Christmas in New Market, another popular festival, takes place every December when local residents open their sweetly decorated homes to the public for guided holiday tours.
Less than an hour from both Washington DC and Baltimore via I-70, New Market feels a world away. Most of the small town's businesses are family owned and operated, lending to a close knit community made up of caring residents.
As part of Frederick County, New Market residents enjoy the benefits of an excellent education from their small public schools including New Market Elementary, New Market Middle, and Linganore High School, members of the Frederick County School System. Frederick County is also home to the highly regarded Hood College and is less than an hour from some of Maryland's other top rated institutions of higher learning, including Johns Hopkins University, the University of Maryland, and the University of Baltimore.
