Stress-free Entertaining during the Holidays

Hosting a dinner with friends and family is always fun – right up until its midnight and you’re still washing the last load of dishes. During the holiday season when things are already hectic, entertaining can feel a bit overwhelming, to say the least. Not to fear! Here are four simple tips to help you throw a great party and keep your sanity.

1. Use your Crockpot

Slow cooker recipes have come a long way since the origin of the crockpot, as more and more chefs find inventive and elegant uses for this time-tested cookery device. We’ve found five easy and delicious recipes to slow cook and serve for stress free entertaining. Yum!

2. Have a game plan

Whether it’s an actual game (and there are so many great ones to choose from!) or just a general plan of how the evening will be organized, having a sense of how the night will unfold will ease your mind. And of course, flexibility is key! Planning is great, but letting go of your plan and allowing yourself to go with the flow is even better.

3. Shoes off, please!

Even if this isn’t normally one of your house rules, consider making it one during this time of heavy friends and family foot traffic – the less dirt from outside that gets tracked in, the less you’ll have to clean the next day.

4. Save your sweeping for the morning

Rather than sweep up at night (and inevitably miss a few patches of crumbs), save your sweeping for the morning when there’s plenty of light! This way you’ll only end up sweeping once instead of twice.
