Seattle Bicycle Sundays

by Debra Hamilton.

May has finally arrived!  My Peony buds are starting to form and the Wisteria is starting to bloom.  Spring is in the air here in the Pacific Northwest!  With Spring comes the beginning of Seattle's Bicycle Sundays - now until the end of September.  You can be a bicycle novice or training for the Tour de France.  The Parks Department closes the street down for this event so it is a great time to get out and enjoy the Lake views, get some fresh air and exercise!  From the Seattle Parks Department website:

Bicycle or walk along Lake Washington Boulevard south of Mount Baker Beach to Seward Parks entrance.

Lake Washington Boulevard will be closed to motorized traffic
from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Sponsored by Seattle Parks and Recreation and Cascade Bicycle Club.

There are a couple of nesting Bald Eagles in Seward Park - maybe you'll get a glimpse of one of them soaring overhead or diving into the Lake for a catch.  They are pretty active until the middle of June with their "babies".  They hang out all year round but the babies leave the nest usually the middle to end of June.

You can come for an hour or stay the whole day.  They used to have these events on alternating Saturdays as well - but I guess it is only Sundays now.  Get your bike helmet out, dust off the bike from a longer winter, and go for a ride!
