Are residents fired up about the Houston economy?

The national economy has fluctuated in a number of industries, displaying cold and hot trends at various points in the past. When it comes to the current economy in Houston, the future looks bright for the area. This might be especially true in regards to the market of homes for sale in Houston.

Consider the insight of a few local professionals. The Houston Chronicle notes that the area's construction firms, energy companies and temporary staffing agencies are just a few of the industries that have recently grown. Meanwhile, Forbes Magazine also named Houston the coolest city in the United States in July 2012, a reflection of its cultural and economic diversity.

Barton Smith, professor emeritus of economics at the University of Houston, told the news outlet that he believes the local economy has lately been on a hot streak.

"We've seen a stronger boom in the past, but in an environment when the United States economy is struggling so much, the Houston economy is very impressive," Smith said.

Economic improvements might lead more people to this metro soon, which could have a significant impact on the city.
