Rejuvenating West Colfax in North Denver

New developments in North Denver's transit systems are revitalizing West Colfax, according to the Denver Business Journal. The West Corridor light rail is currently under construction just south of Colfax Avenue, and is expected to be completed in 2013, while new "transit-oriented development efforts" are complementing the major bus line that runs through West Colfax.

Other developments in the area have contributed to the revitalization of West Colfax, including a former Kmart site conversion to a Walmart Supercenter at the Creekside Shopping Center, a new Denver Public Library branch, the Mi Pueble Latin Market grocery store and the latest Colorado Coalition for the Homeless housing project beginning construction on the far west end of the street.

The news source reported that the West Colfax Business Improvement District is aiding new projects in the area with a $1.2 million street improvement initiative that will make "the street more user-friendly and sustainable within its boundaries, between Federal and Sheridan," including the addition of medians, on-street parking, landscaping, artwork and solar-powered lighting.

Those considering homes for sale in Denver could take a look at West Colfax, as according to the North Denver Tribune, residential housing has been springing up nearby. This area's vision for the future is quickly becoming a reality with community and government assistance, and the dedication of residents and activists who have pushed to get "the kind of developments they wanted where they wanted them."
