Two Georgia cities losing the most jobs in the country
Two cities in the state of Georgia are losing the most jobs in the country, according to a recent report released by NBC. This could send many job seekers to the capital, potentially raising demand for homes for sale in Atlanta.
Dalton ranked number one on NBC's list of top 10 cities losing the most jobs, having seen an 8 percent decrease in number of employed residents over the past three years. The city saw a sharp decrease of 4,446 residents going from employed to unemployed. Its 12.3 percent unemployment rate in June 2012 was the 19th highest in the country, whereas in June 2009, it ranked as only the 43rd highest unemployment rate.
Meanwhile, Brunswick came in at number two, having lost 6.1 percent of its working population over the last three years. Its 10.5 percent unemployment rate was the 44th worst in the country, a stark contrast from its June 2009 unemployment rate, which came in at 180th worst. To compare, Atlanta's unemployment rate in May 2012 was 11 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
