Historic Newburyport is a picturesque seaport town marked by a revitalized downtown area of brick sidewalks, monuments and federalist architecture. Downtown Newburyport attracts tourists with its retail activity of shops, restaurants, and galleries as well as by its famous theater, located in the old firehouse. The Newburyport Arts Association sponsors exhibits and lectures and the Firehouse Center for the Arts features music, dance and theater performances in its 195 seat Arakelian Theater. Adjacent to Newburyport is the popular beach community of Plum Island. Restaurants, night spots and summer cottages line the island's main street and charter planes at the airport offer aerial tours above the spectacular landscape of beach, marsh and rocky coast.

Interstate 95 and Routes 1 and 110 are nearby and the town is at the end of the Newburyport commuter rail line from North Station, Boston.
