Originally named Mokelumne in 1869, five years later the city of Lodi was officially renamed. Home to 65,000 residents and over 3,000 businesses of all sizes, kinds and varieties Lodi has much to offer its residents including a wide variety of housing options, diverse recreational activities, a host of family-friendly venues and award-winning wineries. Potential homebuyers have a wide range of choices in Lodi including ranch-style homes, splitlevels and properties with acreage, which are all common in the area.
In 1967 the Lodi Unified School District was created and encompasses 350 square miles which serves Lodi, North Stockton and a variety of other small neighboring communities. Student enrollment is 29,800 in Kindergarten through grade twelve. There are 49 school sites, 33 elementary, 7 middle and 4 comprehensive high schools. In addition, the district offers two elementary community day schools, and one middle community day school, adult school, a career center, children's center, a developmental center for disabled students, and several pre-school programs.
In addition to a keen focus on education, Lodi has a diverse array of cultural opportunities including a wide variety of museums, art galleries, concerts, theater, local events, restaurants and more. The Charlene Powers-Lange Theater for the Arts at Hutchins Street Square in Lodi's Historic homes district draws performers and theater-goers from throughout the Central Valley and beyond offering everything from comedy shows to classical concerts.
If fine art interests you, Lodi’s First Friday Art Hop is a free monthly event where the public has the opportunity to view and enjoy the visual arts including paintings, sculpture and photography produced by local and regional artists is on display in several permanent and temporary gallery spaces throughout the downtown.
For the adventurous spirit Lodi offers gambling, skydiving and paintball. For the kid-centered family there is a chocolate factory to tour, paddle bots available to rent at Lodi Lake and a wide variety of other venues including the Micke Grove Zoo, Funderwoods Amusement Park and San Joaquin Historical Museum.
