With a population just over 18,000- Chowchilla has seen substantial growth over the last years. A small town off Highway 99, the city offers a unique and comfortable quality of life; despite pervasive growth, the town has clung to the small town atmosphere it’s most well known for.
Chowchilla is served by two school districts, the Chowchilla Unified Elementary School District and the Chowchilla Unified High School District. The city’s Western Stampede one of the most popular events in the city and known the world over; every April residents herd their cattle and livestock down the city’s Robertson Boulevard to the fairgrounds. The city also hosts an annual drag racing tournament.

The city’s history is rooted in the Native American group of Yokuts that once lived in the area. The name is a reference to the Chauchila Indians who were best known for their warlike demeanor. The city quickly prospered and now represents a viable and sustainable community still capable of fostering community strength and togetherness.

The community prides itself on its small, peaceful and quiet neighborhoods. Recent development has offered residential opportunities in the Green Hills Estates, overlooking a golf course.
