Established in 1857, Denton is considered part of the "Golden Triangle" that also includes Dallas and Fort Worth. This region is booming and includes all the amenities of big city life while still retaining the small-town feel: 33 parks and open spaces, 8 recreational facilities, 3 libraries and a partridge in a pear tree. Interstate 35 is the main artery connecting Denton to Dallas and Fort Worth and is populated by every imaginable restaurant and retail chain including The Golden Triangle Mall.
Approximately 103,000 people call Denton home not including a student population of 40,000. The city is well served by LINK public transit system and the Denton Municipal Airport; although, DFW International Airport is just a short trip to the west.
Denton children attend school within the Denton Independent School District, which offers 14 elementary schools, 4 middle schools and 3 high schools. Civic life revolves around the historic Town Square where the focal point is the Denton County Courthouse, which was erected in 1896 and restored in 1987.
There's lots of new home construction in Denton as well as older, more established neighborhoods filled with ranch-style homes and traditional 2-story dwellings. Of course, condos, town-homes and apartments abound to serve the large student population.
