Argyle is located six miles south of Denton, making it close in proximity to both Dallas and Fort Worth. It is strategically located near Alliance Airport, serving as a resource for local jobs and resources.

The city of Argyle has a history that dates back to the early 1800s. The community of Argyle acquired a post office, school, and Baptist church by 1876. The community was formally founded and named Argyle in 1881, after the Texas and Pacific Railroad built a track through the area. Community members can visit the history of the town inside the historic Meadows Building in the Argyle-Argyll Room. Oral histories and other research gathered by former mayor Yvonne Jenkins and Martha Len Nelson, show that the town's namesake was likely Argyll, Scotland.

The small town of Argyle only had a population of 148 in 1890, and during the Great Depression, population declined to only 90 in 1950. In the 1970s, several retail establishments were built and the population reached 1,575 in 1990. The town of Argyle is still "small" compared to Texas standards, but is expected to continue to grow as part of the general development of northern areas in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.

Housing in Argyle ranges from modest frame homes on small lots to expansive homes on multi-acreage property. For new home builders, most available lots are at least one to 2.5 acres with many in the five to ten plus acres and well suited for custom building. Currently, several new subdivisions with homes on smaller lots offer many new home models and others are under construction or are in the planning stages.

Argyle residents enjoy quiet, small-town living plus the advantages of proximity to business centers, shopping, entertainment, cultural activities, and professional sports. In addition, Argyle sponsors an Annual Bluegrass Music Festival held in late February. Currently, folks from neighboring communities such as Coppell and Flower Mound are flocking to Argyle seeking a small town atmosphere, lower taxes, and wide open spaces.
