West Seattle is the area of land located west of the Duamish River. Although West Seattle was once an independent town, the area was annexed by the city of Seattle in 1907. A beach community surrounded by water, West Seattle offers commanding views, including scenic sites of the Olympic and Cascade Mountain Ranges.
