Located in South Kitsap County's Sinclair Inlet, Port Orchard was founded in 1885 by Sidney Stevens. The suave businessman bought the 88 acres of land for a mere $900. Although the town was originally called Sidney after its founder, in 1903 it was renamed Port Orchard in honor of Captain George Vancouver's navigator. The Port Orchard Marina is considered to be one of the best public marinas in the entire Puget Sound. The destination resorts of Trophy Lake Golf and Casting and McCormick Woods Golf Course are both reputed to be among the best golf courses in the state.
