Hyattsville is named after Christopher Clarke Hyatt, who settled here in the mid-1800s. The citys historic district is home to a number of Victorian houses built in the late 1880s and Sears bungalows and Arts \& Crafts houses built between the late 1910s and early 1940s. A large portion of the city is on the National Register of Historic Places. Today the city has a number of active preservation groups that organize walking tours to view historic homes and other sites.
