Weymouth, a waterfront community nestled along Quincy and Hingham Bays is a suburban residential community on the South Shore, just 12 miles from Boston. This attractive community of handsome homes enjoys views of the Boston skyline from its shoreline and thriving commercial activity along its main streets and major roads such as Route 3. Though largely a comfortable bedroom community of Boston and the neighboring Town of Quincy, Weymouth has its own unique identity and a long impressive history as the second oldest town in the Massachusetts.

Established in 1622 and incorporated in 1635, Weymouth was for much of its history a community based in fishing and agricultural. Some antique homes still remain in town as a visual reminder of Weymouth's colonial past. The period after the American Revolution brought greater development. The discovery of bog iron deposits in the 1830's led to the operation of the Weymouth Iron Works. Increased economic prosperity saw more elaborate construction styles of homes and buildings. Architecture inspired from European designs brought distinctive new additions to the collection of buildings that remain among historic Weymouth's homes.

Later, as the iron making industry declined, the economic focus of Weymouth shifted to the shoe industry, employing three-quarters of the local residents and drawing an influx of new residents and immigrant groups to Weymouth. Further development was aided by streetcar and rail connections to surrounding communities. Within Weymouth however, most of the local retail and service businesses were close to one another, and in walking distance of homes.

After World War II, highway expansion and the rise of the automobile allowed Weymouth to become what it is today, a suburban community of homes where most residents commute outside the town for employment. Weymouth's population of 55,000 residents enjoy efficient town services such as its excellent school system of an early childhood center, eight additional elementary schools, two middle schools and a high school.

Homes in this desirable and accessible community come in a variety of styles, lot styles and amenities. In August 2008, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Weymouth, MA was $284,063. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
