Maynard, a community 22 miles west of Boston is also within commuting distance of other large cities in Massachusetts such as Lowell and Worcester. Consisting of both rural and suburban settings, Maynard comprises approximately 5 square miles and has a well-defined commercial center. This town was incorporated in 1871, far later than were other communities in Massachusetts. This long time manufacturing town still has some of the old mill complexes such as the million square foot facility of the Assabet Wollen Mill, whose 19th century facility is now used for digital technology office space.

Like most other New England towns that were once based in manufacturing, Maynard has an economy that has evolved to encompass other industries. Tucked away in the country of Middlesex County, Maynard is accessible by Routes 27, 62, and 117. However, Maynard lies between major interstate belts and short distance away are the major arteries of Massachusetts: Routes 95 and 495. Communities surrounding Maynard include: Stow, Acton, Sudbury and historic Concord, site of the first battle of the American Revolution. Residents of Maynard can get commuter rail service directly into Boston's North Station from Acton.

One of Maynard's most important landmarks is its Town Clock. The clock, set on the tower of Town Hall was erected in 1892 by founder Lorenzo Maynard in honor of his father, Amory. The clock has four faces, each nine feet in diameter. The faces are lit with electric lights. During the Christmas season, the faces are illuminated with red and green bulbs. Less conspicuous, but quaint reminders of the town's 19th century past are numerous watering troughs found around the center of town.

These stone containers, each inscribed with the name of the person who donated it, served to quench the thirst of passing horses, dogs and humans. Though no longer used for that purpose, the troughs are now planted with flowers to give color to the downtown. Maynard provides its 10,000 residents with an array of municipal services including police and fire protection, water and sewer and curbside rubbish removal.

In August 2008, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Maynard, MA was $293,356. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
