Middleton is a rural residential town, located between the communities of the North Shore and the Merrimack Valley. Residents consider Middleton a place with the friendly qualities of a small town. Two elementary schools serve the community, while older students can attend Masconomet Regional Middle School and High School. Additionally, several youth athletic organizations offer sports activities.

Older homes in traditional styles are to be found throughout Middleton near subdivisions of newly constructed residences.
