Marblehead, a picturesque residential community, 18 miles north of Boston, is a seaside town on the North Shore of Massachusetts. Since boating is a favorite pastime of residents and visitors alike, Marblehead Harbor, with its many marinas is dotted with yachts, sailboats, pleasure boats and fishing vessels.

This affluent and historic town of 21,000 residents is particularly popular in the summer. The quaint downtown has a wealth of shops, galleries, restaurants, pubs and salons that attract commercial activity. The alluring charm of the downtown is conveyed on every street, each showcasing historic 17th and 18th century buildings still in use as residences.

Contributing to the cultural life of Marblehead is an array of events involving live theater and fine art shows. The center of most activity is the downtown area of Washington and Abbot Streets. Abbott Street is of particular historic interest. Besides being lined with colonial and Victorian era homes, there is Abbott Hall that houses the town government as well as the original version of the patriotic painting, The Spirit of '76 by Archibald M. Willard.

Marblehead is famous for its heritage of commerce and fishing, its unsurpassed contributions in the American Revolution and Civil War, its pioneering role in the birth of the American Navy and Marine Aviation and its peerless contributions in yachting and sailboat racing. All are hallmarks of the ingenuity, bravery and tenacity of "Headers", the sons and daughters of this small peninsula on the rocky coast of Massachusetts.

Emanating from the town center are roads that curve past monuments, parks, boat moorings and the comfortable homes of Marblehead families. Many of the most exclusive residences are on Marblehead Neck, a narrow area of stately homes that look out at spectacular ocean vistas. Homes here can cost several million dollars. An area of equal beauty and desirability is Peaches Point where homes are similarly priced. Elsewhere in Marblehead are single-family homes and condo/ townhouses of historic and otherwise traditional styles.

In August 2008, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Marblehead, MA was $560,930. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
