Bedford, a residential community, 15 miles northwest of Boston is at the junction of routes 3 and Interstate 95. The town, incorporated in 1729, is rich in history and boasts its possession of the oldest intact American Flag. The flag was taken from the Battle of Lexington and Concord in 1775. The early history of this town and its residents is recorded in documents that are part of the Bedford Public Library collection. Other notable historic sites within the 14 square mile town include the Old Burying Ground, The Wilson Mill, the Job Lane House and other historic homes.

Bedford has one of the best public school districts in the state, with highly successful students in its two elementary schools, middle school and high school. The town is also served by a full-time police department and a fire department that consists of both career and call firefighters. The family-oriented community has a recreation department that provides youth sports and activities. Hanscom Airforce Base is located in the town and the base, employing 23,000 people is central to Bedford's economy.

However, Bedford's access to Boston, as well as its proximity to the high technology businesses and office parks along Route 95/ 128, make this town a desirable place for commuters to settle. Single family homes start at $450,000 and offer average to oversized lots for a suburban community. Beside the historic homes is a variety of architecture reflecting cape, ranch, Victorian and colonial styles. Home buyers can choose an updated 17th century home, newly constructed and spacious center-hall colonials and everything in between.

The community is well-landscaped and not crowded with a population of just over 12,000 residents committed to preserving the small New England town appeal of historic preservation around open space. Surrounding towns are Lexington, Concord, Carlisle, Burlington, Billerica, and Lincoln.

In July 2007, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Bedford, MA was $564,853. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
