William Sachse sure put his stamp on the rolling prairie of North Texas. This young man from Prussia arrived in the Texas countryside in 1845 and quickly began acquiring land. He established cotton mills, gins and, in 1886, gave some of his land to the railroad. The town was named for him.
Today, William Sachse's rolling prairie sits 20 miles northeast of downtown Dallas on Highway 78 and squarely in the path of explosive growth. Sachse is 3 miles north of Highway 190, which provides quick access to Plano, Richardson, Garland, North Dallas and Central Expressway. Many new residents are discovering Sachse. The population has boomed accordingly. In 2000, the headcount was just under 10,000. Current estimates place today's number at over 16,000 residents and counting.
The housing market is racing to keep up. As you might imagine, there is lots of new construction from starter homes to luxury compounds, gated communities to apartments. New retail is also flourishing, not to mention the world famous shopping meccas of Dallas and Plano just minutes away.
Sachse is served by two school systems: the Garland and Wylie Independent School Districts. Students living in Dallas County attend Garland's schools and those in Collin County attend Wylie schools. The Garland schools are unique in that they don't place students through attendance zones. Rather, parents choose which campus their child should attend, a novel approach.
Sachse is a growing community well placed to take advantage of surrounding cultural amenities while offering a few of its own. Each fall brings the Sachse Fallfest, an event that attracts thousands to its arts and crafts country fair. Sachse also boasts the 18-hole Woodbridge Golf Course, home of the North Texas chapter of the PGA of America.
In August 2008, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Sachse, TX was $209,413. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
