A community with excellent schools and a wealth of cultural and recreational activities, Oswego offers many advantages to current and prospective residents. Located 40 miles southwest of Chicago, the village is situated at the southern end of the scenic Fox River Valley in Kendall County. The population of Oswego has increased dramatically since 2000. The 2000 U.S. Census reported a population of 3,875; by 1997, the population had increased to 9,000, and the current population is over 13,000. In addition, new residential development is proceeding at a rapid pace, and many new homes have been constructed in recent years. Homebuyers can choose among older homes including Victorians, Georgians, and Dutch and Southern colonial-style, single-family residences, as well as numerous newly-constructed homes, some of which are situated around lakes and other scenic backdrops. Oswego boasts a variety of recreational opportunities. Residents can relax in various neighborhood playgrounds and parks, take a dip at the village's aquatic center, catch a movie, or bike along the Fox River. They can also play a round of golf at the Fox Bend Golf Course, rated one of the top twenty public courses in the area, take a swim in the village pool, or sign up for an activity or class with the Oswegoland Park District. In terms of cultural activities, residents have a wealth of options. They can visit the brand new Fox Valley Winery to purchase some delicious wines or to go on a winery tour.
