Millington is a small town in Illinois that straddles both Kendall and La Salle counties. In 2000, the population was 458; by 2005, it had increased to 490. The village covers an area of 0.6 square miles. Nearby towns include Newark (2.2 miles), Sandwich (6.0 miles), Sheridan (6.3 miles), Somonauk (7.5 miles), Plano (8.2 miles), Lisbon (9.8 miles), Yorkville (12 miles), and Leland (14.1 miles). The median household income in 2000 was $43,583, and the median house value during that same year was $105,900. Millington was formerly known as Mellington and Millford. For recreation, villagers can visit Leisure Lake Membership Resort in Joliet, Martin Campground, also of Joliet, and Rolling Oaks Camp Ground in Sheridan. They can also visit Jellystone Park in neighboring Millbrook. One of many Jellystone Parks located throughout North America, the park in Newark has been ranked in the top ten of all the Jellystone Parks. It features two heated pools, volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoe pits, a new mini golf course, hay wagon rides, and a general store. In their leisure time, Millington residents can also participate in a wide variety of other leisure-time activities. In LaSalle County, they can take a cruise with the Ottawa Riverboat Company. The 60-passenger riverboat is the company's premier river cruise, and passengers can enjoy Ottawa's scenic beauty and learn about its rich, cultural history.
