Ingleside is a community in Lake County with a population of just over 10,000. Nearby towns include Lindenhurst, Lake Villa, Fox Lake, Round Lake Beach, Long Lake, Lakemoor, and Waukegan. It lies close to the Wisconsin border, and like many neighboring towns, contains beautiful wooded landscapes, ample outdoor recreational opportunities and small-town charm. Volo Bog State Natural Area on Brandenburg Road in Ingleside offers a truly unique day of scenic beauty. It contains the Volo Bog, the only quaking bog in Illinois to have an open water center. Dedicated as an Illinois nature preserve in 1970 and registered as a national natural landmark with the United States Department of the Interior, more than 1,100 additional acres of land have been purchased to enlarge the state preserve, which now includes marshes, prairie restoration areas, woodlands, and two other bogs. Each season of the year brings its own beauty, and seasonal visits allow visitors to observe a wide variety of plant and animal life. Children and their families can spend some time at Artworks Children's Museum on Washington Street. Adjacent to Ingleside's Metra station, the museum provides classes in scrap booking, stamping, drawing, watercolor, painting, piano, and violin.There are a number of public and private elementary and middle schools in Ingleside that provide an excellent education.
