A neighborhood that has become increasingly trendy in recent years, Bucktown's boundaries are the Chicago River to the east, Western Avenue to the west, North Avenue to the south, and Fullerton Avenue to the north. Located just north of Wicker Park, Bucktown boasts a lively shopping and restaurant scene, and bike, jogging and dog walking paths that make it an attractive community for young urban professionals. The neighborhood got its name from the large number of goats raised in the neighborhood during the early 19th century. The community is primarily residential, with a mixture of older single-family homes, new buildings and converted industrial loft spaces. There are a variety of housing styles including Queen Anne, Italianate and Romanesque-style homes.Though the community's real estate is less expensive than other Chicago neighborhoods such as Lincoln Park and Old Town, prices have rapidly risen in recent years, and developers have rehabbed many vintage buildings and constructed new loft condominiums. There are more than half a dozen public grade schools in the vicinity of Bucktown; high school-aged students can attend Roberto Clemente High School on Western Avenue. In their leisure time, Bucktown residents can visit the Chicago Public Library's Damen Avenue branch, and relax at any number of parks in the area. Residents can also become involved in the thriving Bucktown arts community. An artist's colony called Gallery Point is in residence, and each August, the Bucktown neighborhood hosts the Bucktown Arts Fest, attracting over 30,000 visitors to the area. Another artsy event is the Around the Coyote Festival, which occurs every September. Debuting in 1999, the popular festival features works by hundreds of visual, video and performance artists.
