Bordered by 87th Street on the north, 107th Street on the south, Beverly Boulevard and Vincennes Avenues on the east, and California and Western Avenues on the west, the Chicago neighborhood of Beverly (also referred to as Beverly Hills because of its hilly terrain), consists primarily of upscale homes, including several houses designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
The Burley-Griffin Historical District contains the largest concentration of Prairie-style houses in Chicago; seven of these distinguished homes were designed by architect Burley Griffin. Beverly is home to the highest point in the city, at the intersection of 87th Street and Western Avenue. The community is also the home of the South Side Irish Parade, the largest neighborhood parade of any type in the country, and houses more Irish-style pubs than any other neighborhood in Chicago.
According to a survey by the Beverly Area Planning Association, all but a few of the neighborhood's households have college or graduate degrees. Beverly and nearby Morgan Park, in fact, have the third highest median household income in Chicago, according to the 2000 U.S. Census.
The community contains quality public and private schools, and excellent public transportation. In addition to prairie-style architecture, the neighborhood is comprised of almost every other American house style constructed between 1844 and World War II: Victorian, Colonial, Georgian, Art Moderne, Chicago bungalow, and many more. The Beverly Arts Center on 111th Street, offers classes in art, music, dance and theater, as well as rotating exhibitions of contemporary art, and a dynamic performing arts program.
In May 2007, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Beverly, IL was $318,640. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
