The history of the Wheeling, located in Cook County, dates back centuries to when the Potawatomi tribe settled along what is now known as the Des Plains River. Today, the village of Wheeling has approximately 37,000 residents.

According to the town's official website, Wheeling's beginnings came as an overnight stop for travelers from Chicago who were headed to the Wisconsin Territory via the overland trail now known as Milwaukee Avenue (Illinois Route 21). The string of inns, taverns and eateries established in the 1830's was the start of what is now Wheeling's renowned Restaurant Row. Wheeling emerged as a center for industry and commerce in the 1960's.

I-294 allows easy access to O'Hare International Airport (7 miles), Chicago's Loop (35 minutes). Commuter Rail transportation is available to Wheeling residents via the Metra North Central Line boarded at the Wheeling Metra Station. Wheeling to Chicago's Union Station on Metra's North Central Line is a 45-minute commute. Public transportation within the Village and to nearby communities in northern Cook and southern Lake County is provided by Pace bus lines.

Wheeling's secondary education students attend Township High School District 214's Wheeling and Buffalo Grove High Schools. Graduation rates are approximately 89 percent at these high schools.
