Holliston

Holliston, nestled in southeastern Middlesex County, is 24 miles west of Boston. This residential community of mostly single family homes is a bedroom community of nearby Boston and Worcester which is 25 miles away. The town began its history as a portion of Sherborn and was incorporated in 1724. The initial population of a few hundred residents set aside ten pounds per year for public education and this spirit of community investment continues into the present in a town that offers a wide selection of organizations for social links and civic participation.

The active Holliston Historical society operates out of the landmark Asa Whiting House on Washington Street. This Georgian Federal home erected in about 1812 is a fine remnant of the town's architectural past. Other community organizations include a youth hockey league, newcomers' club, community theater company chamber of commerce and sportsman club. Holliston's town government, run by open town meeting and board of selectmen, oversees a number of services such as an on-call fire department, conservation committee, water department and recreation department.

Additionally regional initiatives in purchasing, health care and education, and programs involving arts, culture and diversity all enrich the lives of Holliston's 13,000 residents. Holliston provides public education with its own school district, consisting of an early childhood site, grades three to five elementary school, middle school and high school. The youth of this town also benefit from educational opportunities offered in collaboration with local businesses and groups.

The Historical Society puts on 18th Century Days, a day-long event in the spring when school children experience what life was like in the past by learning colonial crafts. Holliston's conservation land, featuring beech forests and cranberry bogs, provides a number of hiking trails. Visitors and residents can also visit another unique community asset in Holliston: the Broad Hill Vineyards, a wine making facility on Winter Street.

This unique community distinguishes itself with active civic involvement and a wealth of things to see and do. Holliston is bordered by Medway on the south, Millis on the southeast, Sherborn on the east, Ashland on the north, Hopkinton on the west and northwest, and Milford on the southwest and west.

In April 2008, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Holliston, MA was $397,363. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
