Southwest Atlanta is one of the oldest communities in Fulton County and is located within 15 minutes of downtown Atlanta and just a short drive away from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Portions of the area are within Atlanta city limits while a small portion is located in unincorporated Fulton County. Several of the subdivisions that were previously unincorporated have been annexed, a trend that will most likely continue. This quiet, predominantly residential area features historical homes as well as new developments created to cater to homeowners who want in-town living with easy access to major freeways and downtown Atlanta. The area is accessible by Interstate 20 and Interstate 285. Cascade Road is a major thoroughfare in the area offering an alternative to the interstate.
The in-town location gives residents easy access to all of the shopping available in the metropolitan Atlanta area, however, Greenbriar Mall, Camp Creek Marketplace and the West End Mall are the closest major shopping hubs. The area has lots of boutique shops and dining options, and is located just minutes away from popular local entertainment venues such as Turner Field, Phillips Arena, the Georgia Aquarium and Centennial Olympic Park. Other notable points of interest within Southwest Atlanta include The Wren's Nest, once the home of Joel Chandler Harris, author of the Uncle Remus Tales and the Hammond's House Museum.
Students in the area will attend schools in both the Fulton County Schools System and Atlanta Public Schools district. The Fulton County Schools System is one of the oldest and largest school districts in Georgia and is comprised of 90 schools. The Atlanta Public Schools district is working to become one of the nation's top performing urban school districts. Test scores in the area are continually on the rise and last year, well-deserving graduates were offered more than $73.7 million in scholarships from colleges and universities across the country. Competitive private schools are also convenient to the area with notable colleges and universities nearby.
Southwest Atlanta offers an impressive selection of homes. Here you'll find custom homes in upscale, gated communities and prices much lower than many in-town neighborhoods. Gorgeous new construction just minutes from the downtown area and exquisite homes in established neighborhoods as well. Prospective homebuyers will be impressed by the spacious floor plans and large wooded lots. You can beat these values. Whether you're looking for European, Cape Cod, or traditional ranch homes, you'll be blown away. Homes in the area are available starting in the low $100s.
In June 2007, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Atlanta was $371,646. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
