Oakwood is located in Hall County. The city was named for the type of lumber that was often transported on rail cars that passed through the town. The area is accessible by Interstate 985 and is convenient to Interstate 85 and Georgia 400. Oakwood is home to nearly 3,000 residents.
Oakwood homeowners will enjoy shopping at the nearby Mall of Georgia, one of the most impressive shopping centers in the state. In addition to the vast array of shopping, dining and entertainment options convenient to the area, residents will enjoy being near the Blue Ridge Mountains and Lake Sidney Lanier. Students in the area will attend schools in the Hall County Schools System. The system is comprised of 33 schools. Hall County students excel in both academics and sports and have received various awards and recognition, including the Georgia School of Excellence distinction. Oakwood Elementary's Parent-Teacher-Organization is an active organization comprised largely of parent volunteers. Parents organize fundraisers for a variety of school improvements including landscaping and new furniture.
There are also several competitive private schools and prestigious colleges and universities nearby. Brenau University, Gainesville College and Lanier Technical College are just a few of the colleges and universities residents will have to choose from within the county.
