Midlothian bills itself as "DFW's Southern Star," an apt motto since it's definitely a city on the rise. The city population is steadily climbing and presently is estimated at 13,200. Midlothian is perfectly situated on U.S. Highway 287 in northwest Ellis County. Most accounts agree that a homesick Scottish train engineer for the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe railway renamed the town after a favored location in his homeland. The name stuck.

Today, Midlothian is known for its unique location just south of Joe Pool Lake and for its proximity to Arlington, home of the outdoor theme park. Midlothian is also home to three of the largest cement factories in the United States, which serve as a prime economic engine.
