The beautifully named town of Red Oak was originally named Possum Trot! Today, there are more than just possums building their lives in this small town located just 20 miles south of Dallas along Interstate 35. In fact, the town of Red Oak is poised for a growth explosion within the next 20 years.

Most recent estimates indicate the population to be approximately 6,200, but Red Oak is bracing for 26, 750 citizens by the year 2020. To that end, this business-friendly community is aggressively paving the way for a regional transportation system, improved thoroughfares and an enhanced business climate.

Red Oak is blessed with an abundance of undeveloped land, but the challenge will be retaining that small town feel while building a first-class city. Retail development is exploding including construction of luxury apartments and condos. New home construction is on the move but co-exists peacefully with older, traditional homes.

The Red Oak Independent School District has been honored with the "recognized" status by the Texas Education Agency and offers one high school, 2 junior/intermediate schools and 4 elementary schools. The lifestyle is relaxed and focused on community, but it's a green light to growth in Red Oak

.

Trivia alert: Look close and you may recognize Red Oak in Warren Beatty's directorial debut. Some scenes for "Bonnie and Clyde" were shot around town and one local woman was chosen to play Faye Dunaway's mother.
