The area was named after John Wesley Everman, who headed the surveying party that platted the town site and who would become the general superintendent and assistant general manager for the Texas and Pacific Railway Company. In 1917, Everman was one of three sites selected to serve as a flight training school for the Canadian Royal Flying Corps and the United States Signal Corps, Aviation Section. Barron Field, just outside the city, stimulated the local economy and increased population growth.
Everman is home to almost 6,000 residents, who via quick access to Interstate 20 and Interstate 35 W enjoy the city's proximity to the cultural district and other amenities in Fort Worth and surrounding communities. Schoolchildren attend the Everman Independent School District.
The city recently made significant investments in its infrastructure, including a new police station, animal control facility, library, street improvements, completion of the East Enon Street Bridge, reconstruction of the Shelby Water Tank, repair and refurbishment of the High School Water Tower, and installation of a SCADA water monitoring system. Despite such recent investments, the city has actually reduced its residents' taxation for each of the last three years.
