Kingston is a coastal community along Plymouth Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean, 35 miles south of Boston. Kingston was incorporated as a town in 1726. Even today, this largely residential suburb still has some of its approximately 11,000 residents engaged in traditional occupations of fishing and cranberry growing. Other residents take advantage of the town's easy access and proximity to cities and highways and commute to work.

Originally, what is now Kingston was part of the Plymouth Colony settled by the Pilgrims. This historical legacy is preserved by Kingston's active historical society that maintains the Major John Bradford House, which is open for public tours and offers summer brunches on its lawn. Public lands owned by the town on Kingston Bay and on Great Pond provide residents and visitors with recreational opportunities, while summer programs for children are overseen by the towns Recreation Commission.

Though now a bedroom community of homes, in the early days of Kingston, there was industrial activity centered around iron casting, forging, shipbuilding and woolen mills. Today, much of the towns commerce centers around retail business including the Independence Mall with its 100 stores located off Route 3. Businesses in the mall consist of large national chain retailers. Kingston's local government is run by a board of selectmen and the town offers a variety of municipal services including a police department and a fire department that is a combination of career and volunteer firefighters who maintain two stations in the town.

Additionally, the town's school department provides elementary education up to grade six. Middle school and high school students in Kingston can attend school as part of the Silver Lake regional system, or else enroll at one of several area private schools. Kingston is surrounded by similar residential communities that include Plympton on the west, Carver on the southwest, Plymouth on the southeast, and Pembroke and Duxbury on the northwest. Like these communities, Kingston is a desirable town for its seaside location and accessibility to Boston.

In April 2008, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Kingston, MA was $343,500. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
