Located just outside the Baltimore City limits in Baltimore County, Essex is an affordable, water view community that is currently undergoing a massive state-sponsored revitalization. Although the area was once dominated by apartment complexes, beginning in the late 1990's most of these older buildings were demolished and replaced with parks, single family home communities, and modern shopping centers.

Martin Company, which was based in Essex. Today known as Lockheed-Martin, the aerospace technology company continues to employ many Essex residents, who enjoy an easy commute in their own neighborhood.
