Cockrell Hill is a true bedroom community of Dallas. It is a land-locked town of over 4,400 people that is right in the big middle of things. If you live in Cockrell Hill, you're about 6 miles away from downtown Dallas, Irving, Grand Prairie and Duncanville. Arlington is a mere 12 miles further down the road. This means you're never very far from professional sports, live music, world-class museums and theater. Easy access is what it's all about for Cockrell Hills. It's bordered by Interstates 30, 20, 35 and Loop 12.

The Cockrell place was known to travelers on the stage line that ran from Dallas to Fort Belknap and on to El Paso and the west. The settlement developed as an agricultural crossroads and by the late 1800s had a few scattered homes, a small store, and a school. Water became the overriding issue for the town's continued growth. Frank Jester, a local developer, laid out the plan for the modern community of Cockrell Hill in 1911. In 2000, the city was home to just over 4,500 people.

The citizens of Cockrell Hill get high marks for the best use of public transportation. Dallas Area Rapid Transit offers bus lines and light rail. Cockrell Hills is also very close to Mountain Creek Lake, nestled in the rolling hills and offering 2,710 acres of great catfish and bass fishing.

Cockrell Hill's children attend school through the Dallas Independent School District and are surrounded by examples of higher learning. The Dallas Baptist University and Mountain View College are nearby neighbors. The population of Cockrell Hills is very young and the families are large, according to the census, so finding a play date for your child shouldn't be too hard. The housing stock is primarily older, circa 1957, and seems equally divided between owner-occupied and rental properties. There are plenty of apartment units to choose between, also.

In May 2007, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Cockrell Hill, TX was $79,450. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
