Located adjacent to the towns of Lisbon, West Friendship, and Woodbine, in rural Western Howard County, Cooksville is known for its scenic rolling hills, thick clusters of shade bearing trees, and lush green pastures. Cooksville's bucolic, retreat-like environment was for many years settled by a few farming families, but since the 1970's has experienced a steady growth in population. In addition, the famed Merriwether Post Pavilion attracts internationally acclaimed musical acts and entertainers to Columbia each summer. In addition, the town features its own well-regarded private school, Woodmont Academy. While their public and private elementary and secondary schools are top notch, Cooksville is also near the Columbia based satellite campuses of two of Maryland's best universities: Johns Hopkins University and Loyola College of Maryland.
