Tierrasanta was San Diego's first master planned community. Built on the grounds of the old Camp Elliot, a Marine training facility, Tierrasanta extends to Route 52, Mission Trails Park, Friars Road and Interstate 15. It is in the true heart of San Diego's residential areas, with easy commutes to almost anywhere in the city, including downtown and other commercial and business centers.

Despite this proximity, the feeling of living in Tierrasanta is one of having much more open space. The land juts up against the unused property of the Miramar Air Station, and to the edges of Mission Trails Regional Park. Views of that park's Cowles Mountain can be seen from almost anywhere in Tierrasanta. The birds and wildlife permeate the neighborhood and its canyons. Many residents here use weekend time to walk through Mission Trails, taking in its new Visitor and Interpretive Center, or hiking or riding bikes through its extensive network of dirt trails.

The homes in Tierrasanta are of an exceptional quality.
