Green Valley, Arizona, is located just off I-19, south of Tucson. Primarily a retirement community, Green Valley has been named one of the best places to retire by "Where to Retire" and "New Choices for Retirement" magazines. Temperatures here range annually from the mid-80s to mid-50s, making it an ideal place for active adults.

The area where Green Valley lies is part of the original San Ignacio de la Canoa Land Grant from the King of Spain, and before that Native Americans called the area home. The area in and around Green Valley is filled with history, from ghost towns and abandoned mines to old Spanish Missions and even Cold War era relics. But it offers more than just interest for history buffs; between Madera Canyon and the four lakes surrounding the area, you can hike, boat, fish and bird watch without going too far from home. And if that isn't enough, a whole other country is just 45 minutes away as you pass into Mexico.

There are four main shopping centers in Green Valley and 370 different shops, as well as many major employers. Government and education jobs make up the largest employment sector of the Green Valley economy, with Sahuarita and Continental schools and Pima County employing most of the population. The area is also filled with assisted living facilities, senior care facilities, hospitals and doctors' offices.

The homes here are mostly Santa Fe-style stucco with xeriscaped, low-care yards. Many of the pre-planned and master-planned communities in this area are age-restricted retirement communities and active adult communities, loaded with amenities specifically for people in retirement, such as golf courses, community pools, planned activities, classes and much more. Many homes already come with pools or spas because of the wonderful weather and average of 300 days of sunshine in this area. Larger lots can also be found, usually not associated with any development or community. School-aged children living in this area are zoned to Sahuarita schools.

In September 2008, the average price for a single family home or condo in Green Valley was $177,319. This information is from the MLS, and while deemed reliable is not guaranteed.
