Jollyville was settled in 1841 by Henry Rhodes after he obtained a land grant from the state of Texas for 1000 acres. The town however was named after a later resident, John Grey Jolly, the local blacksmith, who donated land for a school and cemetery. Throughout the years Jollyville remained a small town until Austin started to grow. Jollyville's close proximity to Austin enabled the town to expand into an Austin suburb community and the growth has remained steady. Today over 32,000 residents call Jollyville home.
