Cambridge is located due north of the Twin Cities metro area, 47 miles, in Isanti County. It is considered a regional hub of shopping, services, entertainment, employment and education in the east central region.
The City of Cambridge, called the "City on the Rum River" was established in 1866. The name was adopted by settlers from New England, although Cambridge and the surrounding areas were generally settled by Swedish immigrants. In the early 1900's, industry in Cambridge was comprised of a potato starch factory, 1,300-barrel flour mill, a wool carding and spinning mill, and an electric plant.
Today, Cambridge can be described as progressive, growing and dynamic. Cambridge residents enjoy a community that maintains its small town feel, yet is only 45 minutes from the rich array of entertainment and sports options in the Twin Cities. Cambridge is a planned community whose goal is to create a community of well-connected neighborhoods that incorporate green space, landscaping, and parks and trails into their overall designs.
The city possesses ample indoor and outdoor recreation areas, including parks, ball fields, a skateboard park, curling club, outdoor hockey rink, tennis courts, and hiking/biking/x-country skiing/snowmobile trails. Just five miles south, in neighboring Isanti, is an indoor ice facility, soccer complex, BMX track, skateboard park, ball fields, rodeo complex, bowling and parks.
Residents enjoy the numerous lakes and beaches that surround the City and are scattered throughout Isanti County, including Lake Fannie, Skogman Lake and Lake Elizabeth. The scenic Rum River borders the west edge of Cambridge and allows for canoeing, tubing and fishing. The community is served by a municipal airport as well as the Cambridge Medical Center.
Cambridge and the surrounding area can accommodate many home buyers' needs. The area features a range of new town homes and single-family homes, apartment units, workforce housing, lake homes, and executive housing all in a secure, family-friendly environment.
In June 2007, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Cambridge, MN was $196,282. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
