Delano is located about 30 miles west of Minneapolis, and is situated on the Crow River. This family-friendly city is a dynamic and growing community with big plans for future development, especially along the riverfront and downtown areas. They've already built brand new, single-family town homes as the first addition, which will also include a large community park and some mixed-use business, retail and dining space.
Delano is located near Lake Rebecca Park Reserve-comprised of 2,200 acres: swimming beach, mountain bike trail (3.5 miles), boat launch, public and group picnic areas, creative play area (11,000 square feet), group camps, paved bike/hiking trails ( 7 miles), horse trails (9.2 miles), dog trails (5.4 miles), boat rental and rental building and fishing pier. Delano currently boasts 12 Neighborhood Parks, a skateboard and BMX bike park, specialty parks and almost 16 miles of trails and sidewalks and all these numbers are likely to grow once the re-development plans hit their stride.
The major defining feature of the area is undoubtedly the Crow River, stretching from Lake Koronis 125 miles to reach the Mississippi River in Dayton, Minnesota. Residents can take advantage of fishing, boating and canoeing in the river.
Delano boasts Minnesota's oldest and largest Independence Day celebration as well as youth and adult sports leagues, the Tiger Activity Center, summer community programming and community education as well as a senior center and older adult activities. There are bowling alleys and a movie theater.
Many community events are centered around high school sports; Delano is a frequent contender in state finals and championship games and the community really gets behind their teams. One of the unique dining options in Delano is a throwback drive-in, the quirky Delano Peppermint Twist. It's great for families with kids--they're sure to stay occupied long enough for you to be able to enjoy your hand-made raspberry shake. Or, hit up Dave's Town Club--make sure totry the homemade pizza with garlic butter and don't forget the tap beer to go with that!
Delano homes are being added at an impressive rate, about 150 new single family residences each year, so there's sure to be something for everyone's taste and budget. Homes in this area tend to be older ramblers and split levels as well as the new subdivisions with newer model ramblers and picturesque, traditional two-stories. This is a lovely community with a great vision for the future. Make sure you check back on Delano in a few years to see how it's progressed.
