First settled around 1881, Albertville was originally called "Village of St. Michael's Station" and was later re-named after one of its first, and most educated, settlers, Albert Zachman. Today, it's a mix of retail and residential, punctuated by its premier attraction: Albert Premium Outlet Mall. This strip mall is a destination for bargain hunters across the metro and is no place for the faint of heart-you have to be ready to defend your half-off Coach clutch against that elderly woman with the crazy look in her eyes coming your way!
There's a lot of wide open space here. True city dwellers would undoubtedly refer to it as the "country," but Albertville residents might disagree. The city prides itself on "Small town living; Big city life." Developments and subdivisions abound with a lot of very comfortable space, large, open floorplans mimic the landscape leaving residents feeling unencumbered. Homes tend toward the walkout rambler, multi-level and split level and most residents in the communities own their homes as they can afford to do so. The cities of Albertville and St. Michael share a school district, and many community events center around the schools and parks.
There are a lot of young families with multiple children making Albertville and St. Michael home. The community offers adult and youth sports-baseball and soccer; Cedar Creek 18-hole Championship Golf Course; Ice Arena; and local parks featuring picnic areas and playground equipment. For the active adult in the family, join the local running club and see the countryside as well as meet some new people. Albertville's annual festival "Friendly City Days" includes a myriad of activities: a citywide garage sale, carnival, parade, softball and volleyball tournaments, queen coronation, pork chop dinner, fireworks display, treasure hunt, soap box derby, kids' tractor pull, bingo and 5K run.
Dining options tend towards the fast food, chain and Bar & Grill genre. Off the "beaten chain" is Geez Sports Bar and Grill where you can get a great "geez" burger and tater tots along with a cold one; elbow in to the single pool table or dart board, but watch out as Thursday nights pack 'em in with volleyball and softball leagues. Check out Full Moon Saloon and Grill for Monday night Texas Hold'em; just try not to drool on your hand when you get your full moon burger: two 4 oz patties stuffed with bleu cheese and mushrooms, breaded, deep-fried and topped with pepper jack cheese.
Located on the busy Interstate 94 stretch, along with Rogers and Elk River, Albertville is likely to continue to grow and see even more of that "big city life" in the years to come.
In June 2007, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Albertville, MN was $221,757. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
