Located about 20 miles northeast of downtown St. Paul, along the St. Croix River, Stillwater is a postcard community of planned development and managed growth. The city is best known for its historic and picturesque Main Street district, featuring art, antiques and used book dealers, jewelry gift shops and home furnishings stores, unique restaurants and coffee shops many of which are located in historic buildings, former residences and public buildings. Besides the draw for tourists, a variety of business and industry call Stillwater home, from automotive and plastics technology to government, banking and medical services-residents will find it easy to work and live in the same community.
The majestic St. Croix River continues to serve the area, though these days it aids recreation and tourism more so than industry. These days, you'll find paddlewheelers, motorboats, houseboats and canoes roving the waters. Stillwater's permanent residents enjoy a solid school system, including a high school with nationally recognized track and field and cross country programs.
There is no shortage of amazing homes in this community with a variety of natural features. Choose from a Queen Anne revival style on the bluffs overlooking downtown Stillwater and the St. Croix, or a Modern and Contemporary mansion featuring horse stalls and dog kennels on the property, nestled between two lakes. Beautiful colonials and plantation styles accent the neighborhoods.
There are luxury ramblers in housing subdivisions outside of the downtown area and adjoined neighborhoods as well as condos and town homes. There are also more modest, starter homes in cozy, well-established neighborhoods. New Stillwater development does a great job of preserving old world charm and mixing with modern convenience. This is a great community in which to find your retirement dream home, perhaps in the form of a houseboat, pursue your goal of owning your own Bed & Breakfast, or raise a family.
In June 2007, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Stillwater, MN was $375,764. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
