So named in 1908 for the fertile soil that the people settled upon, Richfield holds true to her name by offering residents a rich and abundant lifestyle even in the year 2007. Richfield is a first-ring Minneapolis suburb with a small-town feel; just visit the local nature center (Woodlake), the community pool, or partake in the annual Richfield Half Marathon to experience this close-knit and vibrant community.
Richfield has experienced tremendous growth and prosperity in the last decade, welcoming Best Buy Corp. to the local economy, resurrecting area retail districts such as the Shoppes at Lyndale (494/Lyndale), and planning ongoing future improvements. The quaint post-World War II rambler homes supported a major population swell during the baby boom. Now, many of those homes are being updated and remodeled as their previous owners move into retirement and younger families begin to relocate to the area. Those considering retirement don't have far to go as retirement town homes and semi-independent living high rises are popping up across the city.
Situated between the 35W/494 junction and Highway 62, this city really offers something for all ages and lifestyles. Hop on the freeway and you're minutes from Downtown Minneapolis or Uptown (15 minutes), the Mall of America (10 minutes) boasting light-rail access to Minneapolis, or the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (10 minutes).
Head towards neighboring Edina and in 5 minutes you're at historic Southdale Mall--the first enclosed shopping mall in the country, where you can catch dinner and a movie or the perfect pair of jeans. If it's that unique gift for your artsy Aunt Sue you're in the market for, check out the upscale Galleria Shopping Centre across the street. You really have unbridled access to everything you need for your swinging single lifestyle or your family, including entertainment, both fine and "fun" dining, retail and transportation in every direction.
In October 2008, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Richfield, MN was $178,796. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
