Chicago's West Loop neighborhood is bounded by Halsted Street, the Eisenhower Expressway, Ashland Avenue, and Kinzie Street. It makes up the northeast quadrant of Chicago's Near West Side, just west of Chicago's Loop. New construction is rapidly springing up, and developers, investors and homebuyers are all purchasing real estate in the area. Originally an industrial district, many former factories and warehouses are being remodeled into spacious lofts and condominiums. A growing gallery district attracts art lovers from throughout the Chicago area. Home dwellers like living in the region because they can live, work and play in close proximity to Chicago's downtown area. A mixture of photographers' studios, graphic design firms and wholesale food markets also dots the West Loop neighborhood. There are already a large number of established restaurants in the area, particularly along Randolph Street, or "Restaurant Row," which holds a popular "Taste of Randolph" event each year. Other popular neighborhoods such as Greektown, Fulton Market and Little Italy are close by and feature a variety of cuisines. Though there is not an abundance of retail shops in the area, West Loop residents are close to Chicago's downtown area and North Michigan Avenue, both of which feature many large anchor stores and smaller specialty shops. The Eisenhower Expressway is near by, as is Union Station, which can transport residents to many suburbs in the Chicago area. The West Loop neighborhood also has the United Center, which is home to the Chicago Bulls (and a prominent outdoor statue of former Bull great Michael Jordan), and the Chicago Blackhawks hockey team. The sports stadium also hosts many other forms of entertainment including musical and circus performances. The West Loop is Chicago's main loft district, with many multi-use buildings converted to residential and office lofts, featuring exposed brick and timber ceilings. Hundreds of millions of dollars in new high-rise office buildings and residential towers have been built in recent years. Though residential real estate is not as pricey as in more established Chicago neighborhoods, prices are increasing.
