During its early years, St. Anthony was known for its hog and vegetable crops as well as greenhouse operations. The New Brighton stockyards supported numerous hog farms in the area while the east half of the Village was devoted to vegetable farming.
St. Anthony is a first-ring suburb of Minneapolis, located just five miles northeast of downtown Minneapolis and eight miles northwest of downtown St. Paul. Like Lauderdale, St. Anthony has managed to preserve its intimate, small-town atmosphere even though it's located within two booming metro areas. The St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses of the University of Minnesota are a 15-minute drive from St. Anthony, making it a convenient location for students who prefer not to live in the midst of the campus, as well as faculty and staff. St. Anthony is easily accessible via I-35W, County Road D, Highway 88, Highway 280, Interstate Highway 94, Silver Lake Road and Interstate Highway 694.St. Anthony houses the Francis A. Gross Public Golf Course and Silverwood Park (Silver Lake) featuring a hiking trail, picnic shelter, canoe/kayak access, and shore fishing. Its most striking natural feature is a 20-acre mature upland oak forest primarily comprised of white oaks, as well as red oak, bur oak, cherry and aspen.
St. Anthony is actively developing new condos and town house subdivisions and mixed-use developments to make the best use of limited space. St. Anthony also maintains mature neighborhoods that include modest ramblers, two-story and split-levels originally built in the 1950s, '60s and '70s. This is a lovely, well-established neighborhood focused on upgrading and improving its already abundant amenities and natural resources. A family or young professional would feel equally at home here in the small-town atmosphere that's right next door to downtown St. Paul and Minneapolis.
In June 2007, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in St. Anthony, MN was $209,050. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
