Spring Lake Park is located about 15 miles north of the Twin Cities, and just to the south of Blaine. With an excellent public transit system (buses), Spring Lake Park is primarily a residential community, situated fortuitously near the Mississippi River. The city has several local parks and events to help foster community spirit. The annual summer festival is Tower Days, featuring pony rides, craft show, live musical entertainment, pie eating contests, ice cream social, kids and adult games, parade, and city-wide garage sale.
Adult and kids can participate in community education classes. Learn how to cook Italian cuisine and then take that follow-up buns-of-steel fitness class to burn off all that lasagna. The kids will enjoy camps, trip and sports leagues. It's quite possible that same kid you enroll in their first summer peewee football league will grow up to participate on one of Spring Lake Park's many championship sports teams; they're constantly racking up sports headlines, whether it's taking a local basketball tournament or competing at the state level for football in their division. The community is proud and supportive of their high school athletics and a lot of community activity is centered around both the athletic and performing arts endeavors of area kids.
Northtown Mall (in Blaine) isn't too far up the road, along with the other dining and entertainment amenities this larger city has to offer. For some great American fare, head towards Fridley and check out Keys Cafe and Bakery; they specialize in breakfast all day long at this quaint, country-themed restaurant. For a cup of joe that's good for the economy, go to Global Cafe where they serve up fair trade Peace Coffee and amazing, buttery scones.
This community is best represented as a middle to working class community. Many homes tend to be older, erected in the decade following World War II and in various stages of update: ramblers and split-levels placed on mid-sized lots, plenty of room for some toys and a golden retriever in the backyard and a couple of cars in the garage. This community really typifies a residential Minneapolis suburb.
In October 2008, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Spring Lake Park, MN was $141,800. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
