The Camden community is located in the northern-western-most tip of Minneapolis. This is a primarily residential area with a large industrial portion in the northwest segment in the Humboldt Industrial Area as well as the Camden Industrial Area along the Mississippi, and a commercial area at the corner of Penn and Lowry Avenues.
Residents of Camden are usually long-term with the current population consisting of many middle-aged families with teenage children. Camden contains many unique natural areas throughout the community, several of which link up to the Mississippi River, including Shingle Creek Parkway, Humboldt Greenway, Victory Memorial Drive, Webber Parkway and Webber Park.
These areas all provide opportunities for recreation with trails for biking and running. Folwell Park is the hub of community activity and features ball fields, paths for biking and walking, playground equipment, basketball courts, picnic areas and a wading pool. The community takes care to sponsor events that unite neighbors; some of these include the Northside 5K Street Race, Spring Art Party 2007, Camden Garage Sale and Antiques in the Park.
The neighborhoods include modest single-family two-stories and cozy ramblers, vintage bungalows and small stucco Tudors from the 1920s and 1930s through the 1960s, many of which are presently being refurbished. There are many first-time homebuyers to neighborhoods in this community and it would be a nice place to settle a family or start to build equity as a young person just getting started. Camden contains more sophisticated homes as well: unique Tudors with modern and luxurious amenities such as whirlpool baths, updated interiors and energy-efficient designs.
Steamworks Coffee House is the Camden community's hidden gem, peddling excellent coffee and pastries as well as a lot of good will toward men. The owner gives generously to the community, even playing Father Christmas at the holidays--definitely an extra reason to patronize this establishment for your caffeine fix. Brookdale Mall, located a few miles north in Brooklyn Park, is a convenient retail option.
In June 2007, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Camden, MN was $123,873. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
