Like most of Minnesota, back in the early 1800's the area later to be known as Shoreview was Indian Territory. When European settlers arrived, the area became a farming community and since it became a city in 1957, Shoreview has become a mixed-use area of residences, business, outdoor recreation and shopping.
Shoreview prides itself on being a safe, family-friendly community, consistently rating in the top 100 places to live due to a great education system and low crime rate. An attitude of health and wellness is also pervasive in the community and manifests itself in the many outdoor recreation and wellness activities available to residents of all ages, abilities and interest levels: 11 lakes with three beach areas, over 1,400 acres of parks and open spaces, trails that weave among 10 parks including Snail Lake Regional Park for hiking and running, an inline skate park, archery range, tennis and basketball courts, ball fields, volleyball field, golf course, indoor water park and fitness facility located at the Community Center, and youth sports leagues and adult fitness classes offered.
Shoreview hosts a thriving business community including companies such as Deluxe Corporation, Personix, TSI, Inc., and PaR Systems. A majority of the employment in the city is in education, health or social services industries.
Shoreview is conveniently located only 13 miles northeast of Minneapolis, keeping all the nightlife, cultural and dining opportunities close at-hand, providing an easy commute and very reasonable public transportation service. Shoreview is home to the dining gem of the northern suburbs: Kozlack's, one of the most romantic restaurants in the area. The food is classic American steak and seafood; the Salmon Royal Oak is a house specialty and consists of salmon stuffed with shrimp. Shopping will be largely of the suburban strip mall variety in and around the city. However, motor six miles to the east and take advantage of White Bear Lake's eclectic downtown retail strip.
As with neighboring communities: New Brighton, North Oaks and Roseville, Shoreview maintains a range of housing options based on tastes and budget. For example, there are some incredible homes around Snail Lake-the types of places in which you could lose someone, with wings and intercom systems, boathouses and expansive lake shores and an amazing lake view out of every window. There are also brand new subdivisions including town homes and condos if your tastes run more towards planned neighborhoods, as well as older 1950s, 60's, 70's and 80's ramblers and multi-levels to round out the more cozy end of the spectrum. No matter what neighborhood you live in, you still get to take advantage of all the great amenities and the safe, friendly atmosphere this city has to offer.
In June 2007, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Shoreview, MN was $282,709. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
