Ramsey is both the name of a city and a county in Minnesota and was so-named after Minnesota's governor in 1861, Alexander Ramsey. The city of Ramsey is located about 26 miles north of Minneapolis, with no main thoroughfares to access, it's a community rather sheltered from the bustle of urban, or even suburban life!
More than half of the City's borders are on the Rum and Mississippi Rivers, and over 15 percent of its area is protected wetlands, making for some great boating, canoeing and fishing opportunities. The city also boasts 43 city parks with the usual amenities and several lakes. This family-oriented city hosts many events throughout the year including the Ramsey community picnic in the summer which features kids games, a wellness screening clinic, entertainment, and petting zoo; and the Happy Days Festival (no connection to the TV show) including car show, 5K run, teen dance, parade, and craft show.
Homes in the area tend to be newer and many are quite grand and luxurious. Located on cozy cul de sacs or in sparkling new subdivisions, you'll find modern ramblers, grand multi-levels with towering entryways and the fine touches of granite countertops and hardwood floors. There's a style revival taking place with some unique Tudor and Craftsman designs making an appearance. Many of these homes are located on lots with plenty of yard space and even some wooded areas and the occasional meandering creek. Town homes and condos are also readily available-many brand new multi-level brick-face revival styles as well as the more expansive one-level variety.
Besides a few well-placed convenience stores, some services like real estate, landscaping and accounting, and family-style restaurants and a coffee shop or two, residents will want to head to Anoka for their entertainment, dining and major commerce needs. There is not a lot of development projected for this area in the near future so you can be fairly confident that "what you see is what you get" with this community. This is a nice, family-centered community that takes great pride in its commitment to its residents and lovely natural surroundings.
In October 2008, the average home sales price for a single family home or condo in Ramsey, MN was $202,303. While this data is collected from the MLS and deemed reliable, it is not guaranteed.
